Unocal Shareholders Report Publishe

/* Written 10:49 AM  Jul 20, 1994 by ranla in igc:soc.cult.burma */
/* ---------- "Unocal's new Report to Stockholders" ---------- */
Unocal presented activists with a Report to Stockholders at the company's
headquarters in Los Angeles today. Members of Greenpeace, Burma Forum,
Rainforest Action Network, Democratic Burmese Student Organization, and
the Los Angeles Rainforest Action Project held a banner over the 110 Freeway
near the Unocal Building. This is to be followed by protests in L.A. at
the Thai Consulate building on La Brea and at the Overland bridge over the
Santa Monica Freeway. The afternoon freeway demonstration will begin at
3:45 pm PST.
Unocal's Report, entitled, "Unocal in Myanmar" is, as expected,
somewhat misleading -- but then, Unocal insists that the banner, which reads,
"Unocal Supports Slave Labor In Burma" is also misleading. The fact is,
Unocal remains in a business partnership with the SLORC, which has
hundreds of thousands of slave laborers for infrastructure in the
pipeline region. SLORC is not mentioned in the report, which is available
by contacting

If you are working on a campaign to get another company to withdraw, I
suggest you examine the Unocal report as it may give you some insight
into the rhetoric justifying such unjust behavior.

Good luck!
