    FOREIGN MINISTRY READY TO DISBURSE AID TO MYANMAR--The Foreign  Ministry
is ready to send to the Cabinet for approval a 1-bln-yen aid  package for
Myanmar. Japan had been a regular aid donor to Myanmar  until 1988, when aid
was suspended after the current military  government took power. Foreign and
domestic response will be closely  watched since approval of the package
appears to run counter to  Japan's broad aid principles, which stress
recipients must be taking  steps to protect basic human rights. (Mainichi,
