ABSDF STATEMENT REGARDING THE CURRENT
--------------------------------------
SLORC MILITARY ACTIVITIES
-------------------------
Date: July 5, 1995
The fierce fighting between the SLORC and KNPP started at
about 9:00 AM around Kauk Kauk perimeter and at Mae Surin
confluence on June 30. Three month after the ceasefire agreement
with KNPP, SLORC started collecting porters including women,
students and old persons and together with 4000- 5000 troops
comprising of LID No 423, 424, 425, 426, 427, 428 and other four
battalions into the KNPP designated area on 21st March 95 thus by
breaking the ceasefire agreement.
The justification was that troops were sent for the security
of the state because of Thai national election. Then they said
that it was to prevent the Thais from stealing logs and have not
intention to attack the Karenni. Later they announced that KNPP
has repeatedly refused their request for access through KNPP
dominated area in order to attack the Mong Tai headquarters.
ABSDF regard this just a pretext to wipe out the kNPP troops
from Karenni State. History has proves that the Burmese military
regime used to trick the people and never keep their promise as
whatmore prove is wanted that its refusal to honour 1990 May
General Elections.
ABSDF recollect that Lt Gen Khin Nyunt told a group of
teachers graduating from an ideological training course at the
Phaunggyi Central Political Institute on May 27 that, "some Thai
politicians traditionally turn to diversionary tactics whenever
they face an unstable political situation and had purposely
created problems at the common border and putting the blame on
their military in an attempt to divert Thai people's attention
from the shaky political situation. But such tactics failed
because of the firm friendship and strong ties between the
Burmese and Thai armed forces".
It is evident that SLORC is instigating Anti-Thai spirit
among its Army personnel and Burmese people in order to divert
the political crisis they are now facing.
Recently SLORC launch an offensive against a front line
village of the Brigade (4) of KNLA area firing the Kahtawnee
village which led to the fleeing of villagers to Amara village
near by Minthamee region, headquarters of KNLA brigade (4).
We are convinced that SLORC, is not at all sincere in
solving the problems thorough dialogue but rather rely on force
using brutal violent ways which is very detrimental to national
reconciliation.
We, ABSDF strongly denounce this SLORC's instigation as a
pretext to hang on to state power. We also denounce the SLORC's
cosmetic peace talk with the ethnic groups and earnestly appeal
to the Burmese people residing both inside and outside the
country not to fall into the trap of the Junta and to double
their efforts to topple this illegitimate military government and
restore democracy and human rights in Burma.
The ABSDF also would like to appeal to the international
community particularly Asean countries including Thailand to
reconsider their Constructive Engagement policy which strengthen
the Junta and would not lift a finger for restoration of
democracy and human rights in Burma.
We also appeal to the international community not to do
anything that will help encourage the SLORC, and to unseat the
Burmese junta from the UN and to join international sanctions
against the SLORC.
Down with military dictatorship.
Democracy must be restored.
