The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to draw the attention 
of the Embassy of the Union of Myanmar to the following incidents:

1. On 19 April 1995 at around 06.00 hours, a group of 30 armed 
elements crossed the border from the Myanmar territory into the Thai 
side and seized 10 Karens seeking temporary refuge at Ban Mae Tuen, 
Tambon Mae Tuen, Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province. The group not 
only took belongings of the Karens within the area but also set 
ablaze their shacks before retreating.

2. On 23 April 1995 a group of about 100 armed military personnel 
intruded into the Thai territory in the same area as above. They set 
fire to five shanties and forcibly pushed some 50 Karens back to 
Myanmar.

3. On 24 April 1995 at around 18.00 hours, another group of 
approximately 400 armed men crossed the Moei/Thaungyin River into 
Thai territory for clandestine operations in Tha Song Yang District, 
Tak Province. In this connection, nine Thai residents were forced to 
carry some injured men back to Myanmar. They were later set free.

4. On 25 April 1995 at around 13.50 hours, a group of about 
300 armed militants crossed the Salween/Thanlwin River and intruded 
into the Thai territory at Mae Hong Son Province, and clashed with 
Thai security unit on duty in the area. Before withdrawing, the group 
burnt down some dwellings at a camp of Karen refuge seekers in the 
area.

5. On 25 April 1995 at around 23.00 hours, a group of some 
100 foreign armed intruders from Myanmar attacked a temporary camp of 
Karen refuge seekers at Baan Kaemalaeko, Tha Song Yang District, Tak 
Province, with heavy weapons. Some 300 shacks were also set ablaze.

All of above incidents were acts of violation of Thailand's 
sovereignty and territorial integrity. Such activities were "unaccept
-able" and "deplorable" as they were crimes against innocent people, 
seeking safety for their lives as a result of the armed fightings 
across border. In view of the increasing numbers of violation of 
Thailand's sovereignty in various forms over the past four months, 
the Royal Thai Government will no longer tolerate any act of such 
infringement and will take appropriate retaliatory action in the 
strongest term to safeguard Thailand's sovereignty and territorial 
integrity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requests the Embassy of the Union 
of Myanmar to apprise the authorities concerned in Myanmar of the 
above incidents and the above views of the Royal Thai Government so 
that the Myanmar authorities concerned will take necessary measure 
in order to prevent any similar incidents from recurring in the 
future.
