Democratic Forces Reinstalled Prior to Reopening of the National Convention

Burma's democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has resumed her position as the
secretary general of  National League for Democracy (NLD), the political
party that won more than 80% of parliament seats in the 1990 General
Elections. 
This move indicates the reinstallation of (Burma's) democratic forces to be
headed by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi  prior to  re-opening of the National
Convention scheduled at the end of next month to draft a constitution.
According to the source, the NLD held CEC meeting to elect  its leaders.
Beside Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Aung Shwe was re-elected as Chairperson, and
U Tin U and U Kyi Maung as Vice-Chairpersons. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was just
released from house arrest in July and the two new chairpersons were
released from prison in March, this year. 
It was told that  NLD  has immediately informed their new structure to
SLORC. The re-opening of Burma's National Convention  has drawn attention. 
 

Although  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's  prime role has not changed in Burma's
democracy struggle, she was  house-arrested in 1989, and SLORC pressed the
party to expel her in 1991. 

By this (meeting) the NLD has  made itself ready by reinforcing in
formality as well as realistic (power structure), and thus the political
situation in that country becomes  tense. Once democratic procedure is 
denied (by the military regime),  it can be expected that  NLD will boycott
to attend the National Convention.
