E.U.-Asia Summit: Vietnam/Mekong -2: Laws To Be Addressed

BANGKOK (AP-DOW JONES)--A group of senior business
leaders will travel to Hanoi, Phnom Penh and Yangon to
look into business and investment prospects in the Greater
Mekong Subregion, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said Friday.
In a press release, the WEF said 60 senior executives
will meet with government and business leaders from Vietnam,
Cambodia and Laos during the trip, which starts March 31.
The release said that seminars on China's Yunnan Province
will also be held.
'The state of economic reform, the areas of priority for
investment and partnership; and the legal framework, security
issues and new investment law will be addressed,' the release said.

Burma's deputy prime minister, Maung Maung Khin, will also
discuss with the group the country's banking and financial sector,
the release said.
Also, Burma's minister of finance and revenue will discuss
'unifying the exchange rate, easing capital controls, and
channeling resources through the banking sector,' the release said.
The WEF led a similar trip to the region in April 1995.
At the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit
in Bangkok last December, the ASEAN leaders agreed to urge further
development of the Mekong River Basin.
