BURMESE ACTIVISTS CHIDE MITSUBISHI

Osaka, Democracy activists staged a "Haiku-d'Etat" here
Wednesday, reading poems and performing a play protesting
Mitsubishi Corps.' alleged ties to the military regime in
Myanmar.

According to organizers, a visit to Myanmar by Mitsubishi
President Minoru Makihara last month to discuss investment
opportunities there will strengthen the junta's grip on power.

"It is very important that Japanese people know that doing
business with Burma now only gives money to the army and
those connected with the army. (Democracy leader) Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi has asked that foreign investors wait until progress
has been made toward democratic reform," said Aung Thu of
the Burma Youth Volunteer Association.
