3rd country asylum-seekers

Just a question, relating to resettlement ...

Has anyone any experience of Burmese asylum-seekers arriving in a 3rd
country on a short-term visa (such as student or tourist) and THEN
claiming asylum?

If so, what is the 'success rate' ? how long is the process ? is there
an appeal ?

Are any other visa-classes used for this purpose ? Are any particular
visa-classes for that country FORBIDDEN from applying for asylum ?

If the application for asylum is unsuccessful, were people returned to
Burma or the country of 2nd asylum (e.g. Thailand, India) if there was
one ?

Thanks.
