	Burma's military regime was reluctant to authorise an autopsy by 
an international forensic expert, following the death in custody of the 
Danish honorary consul, a Danish diplomat said at the weekend.

	"The Burmese aythorities were surprised by this request for an 
autopsy, suggesting it was not a normal practice, " said Denmark's 
ambassador to Thailand, Mr Joergen Reimer, who was sent to Burma to 
investigate the death of James Leander Nichols in a Rangoon prison on 
June 22.

	Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and Norway have demanded a full 
explanation for Nichols's death.
