Next Challange: Conference Committe

Subject: Next Challange: Conference Committee

KEEP BURMA SANCTIONS IN THE FOREIGN OPERATIONS APPROPRIATIONS ACT!

LAST VOTE ON SANCTIONS THIS SESSION

Dear Free Burma Netters:

The Foreign Operations Appropriation Act will shortly be in the hands of a
House/Senate conference committee. It is vital that we lobby the conferees
to make sure that the current sanctions on Burma are not eliminated or
watered down further.

We can be sure that Texaco and Unocal are already hard at work lobbying for
the sanctions on Burma to be dropped entirely. Consequently, it would be a
good tactic to press for restoring the original McConnell/Moynihan language
banning US investment in Burma.

This is also an excellent opportunity to lobby key House Foreign operations
Appropriations Committee members.

The conference committee will most likely be made up of the members of the
House and Senate Foreign Operations Appropriations subcommittees plus the
Chair and Ranking Member of the Huse and Senate Appropriations committees.
