New Delhi, August 1996.
Burmese revolutionary and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, 
was presented the Jajiv Smriti Puraskar (Rajiv Gandhi Memorail Award) 
1996 here today.

The award, which was given away by the Union Welfare Minister, Mr. B.S. 
Ramoowalia, was accepted by Mr. TInt Swe, Member of Burmese Parliament, 
on behalf of Ms. Suu Kyi. The award is instituted by the Art & Culture 
Foundation, a non-Government organisation.

The Bharatiya Sanskriti Puraskar for 1995 and 1996 were also presented on 
the occaiton. The programme was followed by a ballet titled 
"Abhisiandhita" based on a poetry by Deepak Mishra.

Among others who were present at the function were the former Union 
Minister, Mr. Arjun Singh and Mr. Ratnakar Pandey, former MP.
