SLORC's human rights abuses in Kyaut Kyi village

(1) SLORC strategic command in Kyauk Kyi announced on June 1,
1996, that everyone in the township must pay three kyats for
human tax and 200 kyat for an acre of land. (anonymous source)

(2) Lt. Capt. Tint Naing Shar and police regional Chief Zaw
Min Nyo of the SLORC army arrested five villagers from Lu Aha
village, namely, Naw Po Loe, Saw Aye Maung, Nyo Myint, Shar Pu
and Saw Mya Htoo and asked them to pay 30000 kyat. Saw Aye Maung
and Shar Pu were later sent to Taung Ngu prison and the remaining
three were sent to Kyaut Kyi Strategic Command detention room.
No one has been released yet, according to the source.

(3) SLORC Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 30 has ordered that
every village at No 5 region in the Mong township must pay five
tins (1 2/3 sacks) of rice and 25 pairs of military uniforms and
25 slippers to them without fail, said the source.

(4) SLORC troops from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 351 led by
Capt Htet Soe Naing got into Ma Swel Htee village in Kyaut Kyi
township and arrested Saw Thaw Thi (28) and Naw Phaw Htoo (25),
son and daughters of Saw Maung Ohn and Naw Phaw Say. Saw Thaw Thi
was later beaten to death by the troops, and Naw Phaw Htoo was
raped and then released, the source said.
