Imphal Oct. 10: The Indian Army is having a close tie with the
Myanmar Army at the Famous Moreh Town of Chandel District
on the Indo-Myanmar international border. The Company
Commander of the 11 Gurkha Rifles, Major Sunil sneaked out
of the Gate No.I in the morning on 9th October on-foot across
the border and came back with his counterpart of the Myanmar
Army in two Toyota cars at noon. When he was not allowed to
cross the Gate No.I with the Comdt. of the 87 Bn of the
Myanmar Army and some officers and *sepoys* from across
the border, there was an altercation between the Major of the
Indian Army and the ASI of the Manipur Police, Mr.
Birachandra who was duty. While Birachandra was trying to
contact the OC, Moreh Police Station, the gallant major of the
Indian Army gatecrashed through the Gate No.I along with the
Myanmarese officers & sepoys in one white Toyota bearing
number 6 A 8053 having blueblack window glasses after
threatening one custom constable on duty while the other
Toyota car turned back towards Tamu.

At about 2.30 pm. on the same day, the same Indian Army
Major of the 11 Gurkha Rifles deployed at Moreh came along
with the Commandant of 87 Bn. of the Myanmar Army at the
nearby Bank asking for a Bank Draft for rupees two lakh (Rs.
200,000) in the name of the Commandant of 87 Bn. of the
Myanmar Army. The Bank manager turned down his request to
issue a bank draft for foreigner. The Indian Army Major was
told by the Bank Manager that he could issue the bank draft in
his name. However, he left quite dejected with his counterpart
from the Bank. The same Toyota Car crossed the Gate No.2 at
about 3.15 pm. on the same day and headed towards Tamu. The
Major of the Indian Army came back to ASI Birachandra Singh
and enquired about his billet and threatened him for a night
assault for not obeying him.

The matter became very serious and it spreaded like wild fire in
Moreh Town before the sunset. The Manipur Police was put on
standby two by the Additional SP and the OC Moreh PS (Police
Station) kept alert. The DGP of Manipur was informed about
the joint venture of the Indian Army and Myanmar Army at
about 7.30 pm, in the same evening. The local MLA, Mr.
Marung Makunga, Social Welfare Minister of the Manipur was
informed accordingly by the panic stricken authorities of Moreh
at about 10 pm. when the cliff-hanging suspense became too
much to bear in the sleepy town of Moreh, the gateway of the
Golden Triangle and the famous international market for
smuggling of contrabands.

Nothing untowards happened between the Indian Army and the
Manipur Police as confirmed by the GAD & Forest Minister of
Manipur Mr. A. S. Arthur at about 12.15 hours on the next day.
However, the DGP had asked for a detail report about the great
mystery of the joint venture of the Indian Army Officer and his
counterpart of the Myanmar Army crisscrossing the
international border for some fishy things. It is anybody's guest
work in this sensitive international market for smuggling.
