AFP/DPA - The Burmese military junta has put oppositionleader Aung San Suu
Kyi under housearrest again. She is not allowed to leave her house since
wednesday-morning. This is said by the BBC-radio on thursday morning. Suu
Kyi, winner of the Nobelpeace Prize, was under house-arrest before, from
1990 until 1995. (actually 1989- 1995, G, BCN)
Earlier on thursday a high ranking Burmese official confirmed the arrest of
Kyi Maung, vice-president of Suu Kyi's party, the National League for
Democracy. Kyi Maung was arrested on wednesday-morning for questioning about
his involvement with student-demonstrations earlier this week.
The official did not want to say where Kyi Maung was held. Between 1990 and
1995 he was detained in the infamous Insein-prison in the capitol Rangoon
for his role in the democratic oppositionmovement.
