Myanmar girl accuses ex-prof of assaulting her in Thailand

Chiba- An 11-year-old Myanmar girl living in Thailand filed a criminal complaint 
with Chiba prefectural police friday against a japanese man who allegedly 
sexually assaulted her in Thailand in February, it was learned Saturday. Police 
declined to release the name of the 60-year-old man from Funabashi, Chiba 
Prefecture, a former associate professor at Takachiho University of Commerce in 
Suginami Ward, Tokyo.
According to the complaint, the man paid a Thai acquaintance in the northern 
Thai city of Chiang Mai to introduce him to the girl. He then took her to a 
hotel where Thai police say he sexually assaulted her.

Japan firm to build hotel in Myanmar

Yangon- Myanmar Inwa Co., a subsidiary of Tokyo based Nikken Rentacom Co., has 
signed an agreement with the Myanmar government to built a six-story, 320-room 
hotel in Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar, a local paper reported 
Saturday. The signing ceremony was held Friday in Yangon with Myanmar's Hotels 
and Tourism Minister Kyaw Ba attending, the state-run Mirror said.
Kiyotaka Koike, director of Myanmar Inwa, and Khin Maung Latt, director general 
of the Myanmar government's Hotels and Tourism Department, signed the document. 
The hotel will be built on 2.12 hectares of land in Mandalay at a cost of $25 
million on condition that it will pay a total $3 million to the Myanmar 
government to use the land.
The accord is on a build-operate-transfer basis, under which the Japanese 
company is obligated to build and operate the hotel for 30 years and then 
transfer the whole asset to the Myanmar government free of charge. Myanmar Inwa 
has become the third Japanese company to involved in Myanmar's hotel bussiness. 
At the signing ceremony, in a reference to criticism of Myanmar's alleged human 
rights abuses, said, " The Nikken Rentacom has judged well to come to Myanmar 
despite the rampant, deliberate negative news about Myanmar by foreign media."
