                     JAKARTA, Indonesia (Reuter) --
The heads of government of 10
                     southeast Asian nations gathered in
                     Jakarta, Indonesia, for an informal
                     summit Saturday expected to focus
on Burma's bid to join the ASEAN
                     club of nations.

The Burmese military government's crackdown on the
pro-democracy movement of Nobel laureate Aung San
		     Suu Kyi
has led many Western nations and human rights
		     activists to call on
the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
		     to delay the
                     move.

ASEAN members are Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Burma,
		     Cambodia
and Laos are attending, for the first time, as
		     observer nations.
