Burma junta discusses Suu Kyi at Asean meet

Jakarta, Nov. 29: President Suharto of Indonesia and -Burmese 
military junta leader Than Shwe discussed Burmese Opposition 
leader Aung San Sun Kyi during talks on Friday, Indonesian 
officials said. 
 
The talks came on the eve of a summit of Southeast Asian 
leaders expected to he dominated by Burma's application to join 
their regional group. 
 
Gen.  Than Shwe "gave general explanations to Mr Suharto 
about matters having to do with Ms Aung San Suu Kyi," said 
Indonesian state secretary Murdiono, who did not elaborate. 
 
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has adopted a 
policy of constructive engagement with Burma but has faced 
pressure to slow the country's full membership because of the 
military junta's clampdown on the Opposition led by Aung San 
Suu Kyi. (AFP)
