Demonstrations in Washington, DC

December 26,1996

More than  100 students and members of the Democratic Burmese Students
Organization, exiled Burmese students, and Burmese patriots will stage a
series of demonstrations in front of  the White House, Malaysian embassy,
and Burmese embassy in Washington,  DC on December 30, 1996. The objectives
of the demonstration are to:

-Urge the United States to impose economic sanctions on Burma.

-Request Malaysia, a member of ASEAN, to exercise its influence to stop
ongoing mass arrests following the latest crackdown on student
demonstrations, and to reconsider its decision to admit Burma to ASEAN.

-Denounce SLORC's attempt to frame student activists and exiled students in
the bombing incident, like the ones that occurred in the past in
Bangkok(Thailand) and Tokyo(Japan), which are used as a cover to arrest
student leaders.

The demonstration will be held at the following place and time.

1) Malaysia Embassy in Washington, DC 
* 11:00 a.m. to 12:00
2) Burmese Embassy in Washington, DC
*  12:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
3) The White House in Washington, DC
*  3:00 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.
