Exceptionally and in respect of Burmanet as NOT a forum for discussion
rather articles etc, the following information could be interesting for
the movement in France, Europe and elsewhere re Buddhists, and support
from Buddhist organisations in their respective locations.

France has some 600 000 buddhists, some 100 000 of them are converts,
the remaining mostly Vietnamese and other asian groups including
Tibetans - very few Burmese.

However, the issue of religious freedom and intolerance, for example in
Vietnam, is at issue.

There are an estimated 3,000 000 practicising Buddhists in Europe, among
the 350 000 000 in the world, according to figures on French TV last
nite (Arte, the Franco-German channel).

Solidarity and support form Tibetans (for example in Canada with
Thierry, Reid, and the CFOB), as well as in the UK may prove examples to
pursue.

Do any of you have examples of cover letters of solidarity from Buddhist
groups and leaders. Of course, HH the Dalai Lama has spoken highly of
the freedom struggle in Burma.

Do any of you have references from HH the Dalai Lama, re Burma, that we
could adapt and use here in Europe? I raised the issue of Burma during a
meeting with HH late last year in Paris but it was too sensitive a visit
to engage the Burma problem.

Discussion????
