Help

HELP ! HELP ! Save Their souls !

A Burmese women named Daw SU SU MAY ( herself a refugee; her two sons are
Burmese student activists in BKK ) running a one women rescue mission in
Bangkok since four years ago till today.

Her major concern is to protect and help Burmese women and their children
from the abuses ( sexual or otherwise ) of Thai Police and employers.

Her daily commitments include visiting Immigration Detention Centre (IDC)
where Buremese charged with illegal entrance to Thailand. She brings food,
medicines, old clothes she can find, and specially milk power for childern
helo together with their mothers in police custody ns personal hygene
products such as soap, tooth paste and brush, medicine for ailments etc.

She also finds places for Buddhist monks who fled Burma and aer looking
for residence in Thai Wats ( monestry ) and for their robe and medicines.
This work has been fairly successful with the help of some Thai Buddhists
friends.

She also places Burmese ( women and children ) patients in Thai hospitals
with the helps of Thai NGOs and the unoficial help of some officials from
Australian Embassy in Bangkok. ( She holds a sort of "immunity pass"
issued by Thai authorities, a courtesy of a friendly Thai NGO )

Sometimes she has to arrange safe returns home of Burmese women ( mostly
domestic workers and those from the sex dens ) who are weary of
Thailand with necessary money and connections.

Currently, she set up a small sewing workshop with other five/six Burmese
women whose husbands are in IDC. All the earnings go to IDC spendings. She
herself works at the sewing machine as one worker. In fact, being a
profesional tailor from Burma, she is teaching the girls how to sew
and cut pattrens and designs. She works all the times together with them
except when going to IDC and hospitals. Thier sole customer is the Thai
NGO which helps them with place and job order.

A Thai Catholic NGO named " Arcgdiocese of Bangkok ( Social Action Center
) " is helping her with a necessary safe vanue for free, with a working
understanding from Thai Ministry of Interrior. ( MOI ), but the NGO does
not provide financial help. It is beyond their capacity.

Her partial financial supports come from REFUGEES INTERNATIONAL,JAPAN (
RIJ ) and BURMESE RELIEF MISSION/ BUDDHIST RELIF MISSION JAPAN 9 KEN AND
VISAKHA KAWASAKHI ) . But their support is, naturally, a limited one,
covering part of the burden while the size of the burden is growing every
hour.

Their are two foreign NGOs in BKK which are active in Burmese affairs,
namely International Resuce Committee ( IRC ) and Jesuit Refugee Service (
JRS ). But thier attention is , unfortunatley, focussed on " politicals "
Daw Su Su May, refusing an offer for a resettelment in Australia,
covers this field which is ignored by others. But this field is growing
rapidly, - ( We all know that Thailand is a prostitute state, but most prostitutes
are not Thais but Burmese; today brothals in BKK advertise in Burmese
letter to customers ) as the situation inside Burma is growing worse
and worse. It is evident that she cannot cope with it alone any longer.

Currently, she housed and feed twelve women and chidren whose husbands and
fathers are in Thai custody. They all live together with her because it is
only there they have safety in BKK, as provided by Thai NGO.

Ther is an abondoned Burmese woman and her son Su su May is looking after.
The child weighs only two kilos suffering from malnutrition. The hospital
she trusted the victim and child cannot permit any more. They told Su Su
May they have to transfr them to Thai police. So Su Su May have to bring
the mother and child to a Catholic nun for her personal care. But
the offer is only temprorary.

Ther is another woman in another hospital. She worked at a construction
site before. She fell down from a five storey high place and her spinal
cord was broken. She became a permanent invalid in a foreign country with
no one for help except Su Su May. She was at that hospital for seven
straight months. Now the haospital gave Su Su May their last warning. They
have to transfer her to Thai police as she is an illegal. Su Su May has
already given the hospital Baht 4200 fot their mediacl treatment.
Ofcourse, it is just a fragment of the cost for such an injury.

As of emergency, the children needs milk powder and the inmates in IDC
( all together 174 df them ) need food, medicine and hygene appaliances .)

You may check this information and the call for help with

KEN AND VISAKHA KAWASAKI- BURMESE RELIEF MISSIOM- JAPAN who are working
closely with Su Su May. Lately, they donate a computer for her works.
Thanks.

Plese do not read this story as a TV commercial. It is real.

Prove Your " BURMESEness" by shouldering a share of burdern.
Please chop your bill for monthly cable TV service, or for Pizza.

Ther are thousands of unsung heroes and un-rgistered Mother Teresas,
who, unfortunatley, are hidden from our vision. These people do not need
Nobel prizes. They just need your sense of patriotism.
