President Bill Clinton
The White House
Washington
Dear Mr. President:
As you have undoubtedly been briefed, the Burmese army's campaigns
against the ethnic Karen and Mon peoples have intensified in recent
days, rendering thousands of hapless citizens--many of whom are women
and children, homeless. Those driven into Thailand are intimidated by
Thai authorities who have been forcing them back to the Burmese side
of the border where they face the brutality of Burmese troops.
I appeal to you to use the powers given you in the Cohen-Feinstein
Amendment of the Foreign Appropriations Act by censuring the Burmese
military regime known as the State Law and Order Restoration
Council (SLORC). Such censure might include, but is not limited to,
stopping all new American investments in Burma.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
(signature)
U Kyaw Win
