  Burma to sell $13 million worth of gems



     Burma's state-owned gem enterprise will put on sale more than
$13 million worth of gems and pearls for foreign merchants at the
34th Gems Emporium in Rangoon between March 8 and 12, Deputy Minister
for Mines Hlaing Win said Wednesday.
     Jade, gems and pearls will be sold both by auction and at fixed
prices in the emporium that will be attended by more than 300 gem
merchants from 16 countries and territories, including Australia,
Britain, Canada, China, France, Japan and the United States.
