Malaysian activists interrogated

For your information only, from <altsean@xxxxxxxxxx>:

Kuala Lumpur:- Six of the nine activists arrested outside the venue of the
Asean Foreign ministers Meeting on May 31, were interrogated by police here
on Tuesday, June 24.

The Burma democracy supporters were summoned to the Jalan Stadium police
station where they were kept for several hours. They were told to make
signed statements. Questions covered matters pertaining to their jobs,
personal details to who made the placards and who funded their activity.

All of those questioned recorded a refusal to answer most questions on the
grounds that such information could be used against them (this is a legal
and normal response).

The May 31 meeting decided to admit Laos, Cambodia and Burma at the July
Summit.

A welcoming ceremony to admit the new members is scheduled for July 23. This
will be followed by the Asean Ministerial Meeting on July 24 & 25, and the
Asean Regional Forum on July 27. All events will be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Pls note that the dates may be changed.
