Continue talks with Suu Kyi, Japan urges junta

Rangoon, Aug. 19: A Japanese foreign ministry official met top Burmese
military leaders and urged the governement to continue talking with the
democracy party led by Nobel Peace Prize laurate Aung San Suu Kyi, a
Japanese embassy source said on Tuesday.

The source said Masahiko Koumura, Japan's secretary for foreign affairs,
met Burma's top military intelligence official, Lt. Gen. Khin Nyunt, on
Monday. "Mr Koumura expressed Japan's appreciation of Secretary One's
(Khin Nyunt) meeting with National League for Democracy chairman U Aung
Shwe in July and urged him to continue such meetings, the source said.

He also said Mr Koumura suggested the NLD should be include in the
COnstitution drafing process. Mr Aung Shwe and Gen. Khin Nyunt had an
unprecedented meeting last month where the two sides discussed various
