BURMA HITS BACK OVER DRUGS TRADE ALLEGATIONS
	********************************************

Burma's military government has hit back at Britain for
accusing it of involvement in the drugs trade.

An official spokesman in Rangoon accused Britain of
introducing drugs into Burma during its 150 years of colonial
          rule.

The criticism follows a statement by British Foreign
Secretary, Robin Cook, condemning the Burmese
government for profiting from the drugs trade.

And he described Rangoon's policies as repressive and
          irresponsible.

The British minister has also ruled out Burma's participation
in the Asia-Europe meeting in London next year because of
the European Union's sanctions against the ruling military
          junta.

But Malaysia has warned that the Association of South East
Asian Nations may boycott the summit if Burma is barred
          from attending.
