(1) Management Offices, Factories Open in Dagon Myothit (South)
Management Offices of Industrial Zones 1 and 2 in Dagon Myothit (South) and
factories built by Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development
were opened at the respective venues on 8 September. Present were Secretary-2
of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt. Gen Tin Oo, Ministers and
officials concerned. Minister for Construction Maj. Gen Saw Tun and Chairman
of Management Committee for Industrial Zone 1 formally opened the management
office. The minister then formally unveiled the signboard of Soe Electric and
Equipment Co Ltd. The Food and Noodle Factory of Rainbow Industry Ltd was
also formally opened by the minister and its chairman.
The minister, Chairman of International Nippo Trading Co Ltd Mr Takayasu Ise
and Managing Director of the factory formally opened the Plastic Factory.
The minister, Director General of DHSHD U Arnt Kyaw and chairman of the
factory opened South Dagon Oil Mill and toured. Next, the D.G. of DHSHD and
Chairman of Management Committee for Industrial Zone 2 formally opened the
management office.
(2) 1997 International Literacy Day Donations Exceed K 246 Million
1997 International Literacy Day was observed at the Myanmar
Education Research Bureau on Pyay Road at 10 am on 8 September. Master of
ceremonies Chairman of Myanmar Education Research Bureau U Tin Nyo
extended welcome to wellwishers who would donate cash for the two sectors of
the Education for All programme, formal education and non-formal education,
on International Literacy Day. The donation was to K 246.2 million, two
million yen and 3,000 FECs, he said. Moreover, he said, there are one-year
stipends for 500 primary school children. He noted that the present
donations were made collectively on a single occasion in Yangon and this
would prompt other wellwishers throughout the country to do so. General
Secretary of Myanmar UNESCO National Commission Rector of the Institute of
Education (Yangon) read the message of Director-General of UNESCO Mr Federico
Mayor on the
occasion of the International Literacy Day. UNDP Resident Representative
Mr Siba Kumar Das also spoke on the occasion.
(3) Myanmar Delegation to 19th ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry
Ministers Meeting
Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation
Lt-Gen Myint Aung left Yangon by air on 8 September morning for Bangkok to
attend the 19th ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Ministers Meeting in Bangkok.
Myanmar delegation will discuss bilateral cooperation among the ASEAN
countries in food, agriculture and forestry sectors and cooperation with
countries in the region and other countries.
(4) Myanmar Delegation to Attend Korean Summit
Myanmar delegation led by Secretary of Myanmar Investment
Commission Minister at the office of Deputy Prime Minister Brig-Gen
Maung Maung left Yangon by air on 8 September to attend the 1997 Korean
Summit as guests. The summit will be held in Seoul, the Republic of Korea
from 9 to 12 September.
(5) Myanmar Delegation Back from 18th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary
Organization Meeting
Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the National Convention Convening
Work Committee U Aung Toe returned from Indonesia by air on
8 September evening after attending the 18th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary
Organization Meeting held in Bali from 1 to 6 September.
(6) Minister Back from ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting
Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Thein Win arrived
back Yangon by air on 8 September evening after attending the ASEAN Transport
Ministers Meeting (ATM) held in Cibu, the Philippines, on 5 and 6 September.
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 8 SEPTEMBER
(A) Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment
Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Group Managing
Director of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd Mr Canning Fok and party at his office.
(B) Minister for Commerce Lt-Gen Tun Kyi received Executive
Vice-President of the Export and Import Bank Mr Gu Mingchao of the People?s
Republic of China at his office.
(C) Minister for Rail Transportation U Win Sein received the Executive
Vice-President of the Export and Import Bank of China Mr Gu Mingchao and
party at his office.
