[Notes: 1 viss = 1.6 kg. / 3.5 lb. Ajinomoto is commercial MSG seasoning
common in Burma. Walkie-talkie batteries (i.e. AA penlight batteries) can
be very hard for villagers to get, because SLORC considers such batteries
as rebel equipment and often executes villagers for selling or possessing
them.]

A - R - M - Y [handwritten]
Notification
Matter: Now I take elder brother's [i.e. your] bullock cart to carry
supplies for our Battalion #xx of DKBA
Therefore, please don't mind younger brother [me] taking it for use in
supplying the Battalion. People are now in great difficulties, that is why
younger brother took elder brother's cart. Don't be angry with me,
brother. Elder brother's son and sister will have no need to be afraid of any
danger. Let them stay in the house. Younger brother [I] will always take
care of the sister and the family. Elder brother, also please don't
misunderstand
me. I also will not misunderstand you. Please be calm and let sister come
and stay. Now there is only younger sister's couple [her and her husband]
staying in the house, so I request the elder sister to come and stay. I
will protect and take care of my sister. That is all, elder brother.

[Note: referring to each other as brothers and sisters is common in polite
speech among people who are not related. 'Younger brother' (the DKBA
officer) apparently wants not only the man's cart, but also his sister.
"Elder brother's son and sister will have no need to be afraid of any
danger" may be an implicit threat. This DKBA letter was written in
Burmese.]
