(1)		Commander-in-Chief (Army) of Royal Thai Army Arrives
 
		At the invitation of Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies Director of Defence Services
Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, General Chetta Thanajaro, Commander-in-Chief
(Army) of Royal Thai Army and party arrived Yangon by air on 6 November
morning. General Chetta Thanajaro and party, accompanied by Brig-Gen Kyaw Win
and officials, visited Shwedagon Pagoda at 10 am on the same day. offering
flowers, lights and incense to Buddha Images and donating cash towards the
pagoda funds. 
 
		In the afternoon, General Chetta Thanajaro and party arrived at the Office
of Hlinethaya Industrial Zone Administrative Committee in Hlinethaya
Township, Yangon where Director-General of the Human Settlement and Housing
Development Department and officials briefed the Thai delegation on the
project of Hlinethaya Industrial Zone and housing development. Then Thai
General and party visited factory of Myanmar Megasteel Industries Ltd, Nawade
Garden Housing Project and FMI Padethabin City Housing Project. They then
proceeded to Yangon International Airport and left Yangon by air in the
afternoon.
 
(2)		Special Envoy Offers Thai King's Kathina Robes in Mandalay
 
		A ceremony to offer the King of Thailand's kathina robe for third time was
held at Maha Atulawaiyan Atumishi Kyaungtaik in Mandalay on 2 November
morning. On behalf of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Special Envoy
offered kathina robes to members of the Sangha who had completed the retreat
during the Lent at State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho.
 
		The Thai King's Special Envoy explained the purpose of donating kathina
robes. The King of Thailand donated 10,000 baht for renovation and
maintenance of Maha Atulawaiyan (Atumashi) Kyaungtaik and US $ 4,000 for the
present third kathina robe donation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Thailand 200,000 baths for renovation and maintenance of the monastery. The
Ambassador of Thailand handed K 99,900 donated by the Embassy of Thailand and
Thai Buddhist delegation members for the State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho
(University of Buddhistic Studies).

(4)		News Conference on Indian Trade Exhibition Held
 
		A News conference on Indian Trade Exhibition jointly sponsored by India
Trade Promotion Organization and the Indian Embassy, was held at the Traders
Hotels, Sule Pagoda Road, Yangon at 9.30 am on 6 November. Indian Ambassador
Mr Shyam Saran pointed out that this is the second trade exhibition and the
first such event was held in Yangon in February 1995. India and Myanmar are
close neighbours sharing a common border. The programme of economic reform
launched by the Government of Myanmar has coincided with India's own outward
looking policies of economic and trade liberalization. The entry of Myanmar
into ASEAN is a significant development and Myanmar has the potential to
becoming a major platform for India's economic interaction with Myanmar, both
in terms of trade as well as investment. The close friendly relations between
India and Myanmar provide an excellent environment for promoting trade and
commercial links, he said. Then, the Indian Ambassador replied to questions
raised by those present. The India Trade Exhibition will be held at the
Convention Centre (Tatmadaw Hall) on U Wisara Road, Yangon, from 7 to 13
November. The exhibits by a number of Indian firms will cover engineering
goods, consumer items, drugs and phamaceuticals, chemicals, leather goods,
textiles and garments, food products and others.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 6 NOVEMBER
 
(A)		Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Chief of the
Office of the Strategic Studies Director of Defence Services Intelligence
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received General Chetta Thanajaro, Commander-in-Chief
(Army) of Royal Thai Army and party at Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road at
10.30 am. They discussed friendly relations between the two countries and
between the two Armies and economic cooperation for mutual economic
development. Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted lunch in honour of
General Chetta Thanajaro and delegation at Tatmadaw Guest House.
 
(B)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism Lt-Gen Kyaw Ba received Managing
Director of Eastern & Oriental Express Limited Mr Nick Varian and party at
his office.
 
(C)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received
Consultant of InterCable Verlag AG Mr Jeff Adiong of Switzerland at Myanmar
Investment Commission Office.
 
(D)		Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Win Tin received Chairman of
Seoul Mobile Telecom Mr Lee Bong Hoon and party of the Republic of Korea at
his office.
