BURMA'S OPPOSITION LEADER ALLOWED TO LEAVE HER RESIDENCE
		********************************************************

Burma's Opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has left her
	  residence for the first
time since authorities prevented her from going out to attend a
	  political meeting last
          week.

Ms Suu Kyi, leader of Burma's National League for Democracy,
	  attended a
memorial meeting for a member of her party who died in
	  suspicious circumstances
          in prison seven years ago.

Burma's military government confined Ms Suu Kyi to her home
	  last week and riot
police barricaded an office of her political party to prevent
	  her from meeting
          members of its youth wing.

The N-L-D says the government detained more than 50 of its
	  members who had
tried to attend the meeting in Rangoon.
