(1)		Communications Sector Advances to Packet Switching
		Packet switching of the Mayangon Computer Communication Exchange of the
Ministry of Communications, Post and Telegraphs was inaugurated at the above
exchange on 12 November attended by Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo. First, Minister U Soe Tha delivered an
address. Noting that the computer communications system was the first to be
introduced in Myanmar and adding, the system is being used in a considerable
number of nations in the world. With the inauguration of the new system, he
said, Myanmar too can now use computer communication system through contacts
at home and abroad. 
 
		Data could be sent and received through computer network, Electronic Mail
or E Mail will also be put to use. The minister noted that governments,
embassies, international organizations, foreign investors, oil exploration
firms, gems mining companies, airlines, hoteliers, banking services and
private enterprises will have access to the data communication service or
computer communication service, adding they would be able to do business
speedily and efficiently. 
 
(2)		LPDR Politburo Member and Delegation Arrive
		Member of the Political Bureau Central Committee President of Lao National
Construction Front Mr Oudon Khathiya and delegation of the Lao People's
Democratic Republic arrived Yangon by air at 6:45 pm on 12 November at the
invitation of Minister for Religious Affairs Lt-Gen Myo Nyunt.
 
(3)		ASEAN Business Forum Mission Meets MCCI Members
		The 43-member ASEAN Business Forum Mission led by ASEAN Secretary-General
Dato Ajit Singh and Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development
jointly organized a meeting with Executive Committee members of the Union of
Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and about 100 entrepreneurs at the
Sedona Hotel on 12 November. The ASEAN Secretary-General led the discussions
with members of MCCI on private sector in ASEAN economic cooperation.
 
(4)		Tractor for Ministry of Industry-2
		Pec of India and Gujarat Tractor Corporation Limited presented a tractor
worth $ 8,528 to Ministry of Industry-2 on 12 November, at the booth of the
company at the Indian Trade Fair. Managing Director of the company CJ Jose
IAS presented the related document to Deputy Minister for Industry-2..
 
(5)		The Biggest Haul of Heroine and Opium
		A patrolling column of Defence Services found and searched a house upon
suspicion, being owned by Lauk sann (a) Zaw Myo Hlaing, Kaung Kway village,
east of Kyu Koke/Pansaing Town, Muse Township near China-Myanmar Border at 5
am, 11 November, 1997 in finding Heroine blocks and packets of Opium. 
 
		Upon the reporting back of the patrolling column Tactical Operations
Commander of North-East Command Col Soe Yee and party arrived at the scene
and continued the search around the environs and found themselves in seizing
the 10 suspects along with the following drugs and paraphernalia as well.
 
	(a)	Heroine (818 blocks and 40 plastic bags) 	 296. 85 	 kilos
	(b)	Opium							 61. 2 kilos
	(c)	M-22								 2	 Nos
	(d)	Grenade							 9	 Nos
	(e)	Vehicle							 2	 Nos
		This seizure-weight is the biggest haul of Heroine in Myanmar.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 12 NOVEMBER
(A)		Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council
Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe received
ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Ajit Singh at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of
Defence.
 
(B)		Vice-Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Deputy
Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General
Maung Aye received goodwill delegation led by Commander of Lanzhou Military
Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Liu Jingsong and
members at Zeya Thiri Beikman on Konmyinttha, Yangon.
 
(C)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen 
Maung Maung received Vice-President Mr R Nath of Tata Exports Ltd of India
and party at MIC Office.
 
(D)		Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein received Vice-President Mr R Nath
of Tata Group of India and Director Mr Vinayuk of Project and Equipment
Corporation of India Ltd at his office.
