(1)		Myanmar Building Modern Developed Nation Relying on Own Natural and
Human Resources and Own Internal Strength
 
		Seminar on Human Resource Development and Nation Building in Myanmar
sponsored by the Office of the Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence
commenced with an opening address by Chief of the Office of the Strategic
Studies Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt at the International Business Centre on 18 November.
 
(2)		Competition Will Strengthen and Foster Goodwill Between ASEAN Member
Countries
 
		The 1997 International Traditional Boat Race began at Inya Lake on 18
November attended by Patron of the Boat Race Organization Leading Committee
Chairman of Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt. The opening ceremony ended with
the display of traditional boats of Innlay Lake. Men's and women's rowing
teams from Thailand, men's team from Malaysia, men's and women's teams from
Myanmar and men's and women's teams from the Philippines, Ministry teams,
club teams and hotel and company teams in Yangon are to take part in the
competition on 18 November and 19 November.
 
(3)		Young Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia Arrives
 
		The 34-member business delegation led by Vice-President Mr Stephen
Anthonysamy of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia, PUMM, arrived
Yangon by air on 18 November for a business study tour of Myanmar. The
Malaysian business group is to explore prospects for business ventures with
the Myanmar businessmen. They will hold business forum with Myanmar
entrepreneurs under auspices of the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and
Industries.
 
(4)		Rector Leaves for Malaysia
 
		Rector U Thein Tan of Mandalay Institute of Technology of Advanced Science
and Technology Department, Ministry of Science and 
Technology, left Yangon on 18 November to attending the 34th Meeting of the
ASEAN Committee of Science and Technology, sponsored by ASEAN, in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting will hold from 19 to 21 November.
 
(5)		Secretary of MWJA Leaves for Japan
 
		Under the arrangement of cultural cooperation and exchange in two
countries, Secretary of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association
Editor-in-Chief U Win Pe of Sarpay Beikman under the Printing and Publishing
Enterprise of Ministry of Information, at the invitation of National UNSECO
Commission of Japan, left Yangon for Japan on 18 November.
 
(6)		Twenty-one More Exchange Arms for Peace
 
		Twenty-one members of armed groups exchanged arms for peace at various
military commands from 1 to 15 October.
 
OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 18 NOVEMBER
 
(A)		Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt
received member of the Political Bureau Central Committee President of Lao
National Construction Front Mr Oudon Khatthiya and goodwill delegation of the
Lao People's Democratic Republic at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence.
 
(B)		Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission
Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Chairman Mr Eiichiro Okumoto and party
of Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd of Japan at his office.
 
		The Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung
Khin also received Group Executive Director Mr Abd Hamid Hj Cha and party of
Actacorp Holdings Berhad of Malaysia at his office.
 
(C)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Director of
Strand Hotels International Ltd based in Hong Kong Mr Adrian Zecha and party
at his office.
 
(D)		Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Win Tin received Ambassador of
Republic of Korea Mr Kyong Bo Choi at his office.
