(1)  General Maung Aye inspects Kyaukgu-Tarpalan road  section in Yaksauk
 
YANGON, 18 Oct-Vice-Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council
Deputy  Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army)
General Maung Aye and  Secretary-2 of the State Law and Order Restoration
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by  Minister for Religious Affairs Lt-Gen
Myo Nyunt, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, Quarter  master-General Lt-Gen
Tin Hla, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun Chief of Staff (Air)
 Brig-Gen Kyaw Than and officials , left here for Heho in Shan State by
Tatmadaw aircraft this  morning. 

 General Maung Aye, the Secretary-2 and party were welcomed at Heho Airport
by Chairman of  Sagaing Division Law and Order Restoration Council Commander
of North-West Command  Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Chairman of Shan State Law and
Order Restoration Council  Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Tin Htut,
Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Myint Thein  and departmental officials.

 The General and the Secretary-2 and party flew by helicopter to Kyaukson
Village in Kyaukgu  Village Tract, Yaksauk Township where Kyaukgu-Tarpalan
section of  ShwenyaungYaksauk-Kyaukgu-Taungkham-Kangyi-Nawnghkio road is
being constructed.

 The General and party were welcomed by Commander of No 55 LID Brig-Gen Than
Tun, officials  and local populace.

(2)   Fifth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions  come to grand
finale
 
YANGON, 18 Oct-The Fifth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions held
from 2  to 14 October came to grand finale with the prize-distribution
ceremony at the National Theatre on  Myoma Kyaung Street this afternoon. 
 Patron of the Leading Committee for Organizing Fifth Myanma Traditional
Performing Arts  Competitions Secretary,l of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt  delivered an address and presented
prizes.

 Also present were members of the State Law and Order Restoration Council,
ministers, the Chief  Justice, the Attorney-General, the Chairman of Civil
Service Selection and Training Board, the  Yangon Mayor, members of the Panel
of Patrons of the Leading Committee, senior officers of the  Ministry of
Defence, deputy ministers, the Director-General of the State Law and Order
 Restoration Council Office, departmental heads, diplomats and resident
representatives of UN  agencies, the Chairman of the Leading Committee and
members, chairmen and members of various  subcommittees, members of the
panels of judges, supervisors and managers of state and division  contestant
troupes and artistes.

(3)   Minister inspects Dagon and Diamond Soft Drinks  Factories
 
YANGON, 18 Oct-Acting Minister for Industry-1 and Minister for Livestock and
Fisheries U  Aung Thaung inspected Dagon and Diamond Soft Drinks Factories in
Sangyoung and Lanmadaw  Townships and No 1 Gas Factory in Botahtaung Township
today.

 At Dagon Soft Drinks Factory, Managing Director of Myanma Foodstuff
Industries U Kyaw Myint  and factory manager U Khin Soe reported on
production and distribution.

 The minister inspected the process at the factory. Factory Manager U Thein
Nyunt reported on  production and distribution of Diamond Soft Drinks
Factory. The minister then inspected the  factory.

 The minister and party also inspected No 1 Gas Factory in Botahtaung
Township in the evening.

(4)   Indonesian military delegation concludes visit
 
YANGON, 18 Oct-Indonesian military delegation led by Brig-Gen Sukirno of
Joint Staff  College of Indonesia left here by air this morning.

 The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Commandant of
Command and  General Staff College Brig-Gen Soe Tint and Tatmadaw officers
(Army, Navy, Air), Military  Attache of the Indonesian Embassy Colhary
Bambang Poernomo and other officials.

(5)   K 600,000 donated to social organizations

YANGON, 18 Oct-Wellwisher U Hla Tun, Certified Public Accountant and
financial  consultant and U Tin Min Oo, husband of the late Daw Mya Sanda
Tun, of Inya Myaing Supaung  Road donated cash to Defence Services General
Hospital and social organizations at M-3 Food  Centre in Bahan Township this
morning.

 U Hla Tun donated K 100,000 each for DSGH and No 2 Military Hospital
(500-bed)  Commandant Col Tin Thein Lwin and Record Officer Lt-Col Aung Myint
accepted the donation .

 U Hla Tun also donated cash to eight social organizations and hospitals and
welfare societies of  Ministry of Finance and Revenue, Ministry of National
Planning and Economic Development,  News and Periodicals Enterprise, Myawady
TV and Little Sisters Home for the Aged in  Kandawgalay totalling over K
600,000.

(6)   Posters and colours scrutinized for 30th founding  Anniversary of ASEAN

        Posters and Colour Photo Contest
 
YANGON, 18 Oct The Board including six photographers led by Deputy Minister
for  Information U Thein Sein scrutinized 323 entries of colour photos for
30th founding Anniversary of  ASEAN posters and Colour Photo Contest at the
Ministry of Information this morning.

The board also scrutinized 249 posters sent by 220 school children yesterday.

Suitable photos and posters will be sent to the Office of ASEAN Secretary
General  (Jakarta).

Prizes will be given to first second and third positions at the prize
presentation of summit meeting of  ASEAN members to be held in December 1997.
