 (1)		Assigning Duties to New Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the 
		National Convention Convening Commission
		The State Peace and Development Council has assigned duties to the 
following persons as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the National Convention
Convening Commission by Order No. 2/97 on 6 December 1997.

		(a)	Maj-Gen Saw Lwin			Chairman
		 	Minister
			Ministry of Hotels and Tourism
		(b)	Maj-Gen Sein Htwa			Vice-Chairman
			Minister
			Ministry of Religious Affairs
		(c)	Brig-Gen Pyi Sone				Vice-Chairman
			Minister 
			Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and
			Resettlement
 
(2)		Myanmar Delegation Leaves for China
		Myanmar delegation led by Director-General of the Cooperatives 
Department left Yangon by air on 6 December for People's Republic of China to
visit factories and enterprises in China for one week at the invitation of
Sima Company, 
an affiliate of China Machine Building International Corp (Sichuan Branch).
 
(3)		Kyi Kyi Than Wins Gold in XI World Women's Weightlifting 
		Championship

		Kyi Kyi Than of Myanmar won a gold in 46 kilo class of XI World Women's
Weightlifting Championship with a record of 77.5 kilos at Sports Complex in
Chiangmai, Thailand, on 6 December. The Championship is to mark the 70th
Birthday of the King of Thailand. Altogether 41 nations are taking part.
 
(4)		Drugs Seized at Check Point in Kalaw

		A team of anti-narcotic task force seized 352.34 kilos of opium on 
3 December 11 pm at a check point in Kalaw, Eastern Shan State. The opium was
hidden under soft drink bottles in a truck driven by Maung Kyi Aung. The
authorities 
concerned has arrested the driver and a passenger on the truck and legal
action will be taken against both of them, it is learnt.
