STATEMENT WITH REGARD TO RESOLUTION



STATEMENT WITH REGARD TO RESOLUTION ON BURMA ADOPTED BY AUSTRALIAN LABOR
PARTY NATIONAL CONFERENCE

1. 	 Resolution on Burma adopted by Australian Labor Party national
conference held on 22 January, 1998 are warmly welcomed by the National
League for Democracy (Liberated Area), on behalf of the entire nation. 
          
2. 	Labor Party empathetically focused on the human rights violations
committed by The State Peace and Development council and expresses its
appreciation for indomitable will of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to bring freedom
and Democracy to Burma. Labor also call on the Australian Government as
follows; 
(a) Cutively discourage Australian trade with Burma, closure of the
Auestrade office in Rangoon. 
(b) Discourage Australian companies from doing Business in Burma and ban new
Australian investment in Burma. 
(c) Outively discourage Australian citizens from visiting Burma for Business
and tourism. 
(d) Suspend the issue of visa for visit to Australia by Burmese officials
and after person associated with the military regime and  
(e) Put the State Peace and Development Council on notice that the
diplomatic relations will be downgraded in the event of for then
deterioration of human rights situation in Burma. 

3. 	The NLD-LA would like to express that these demands are in consistence
with the will and the benefit of the Burmese people. The NLD-LA appreciates
Labor for its achievements that are very effective in Promoting the
Democracy and Burma rights through out the world. The NLD-LA also recognized
that Labor Party has been playing the significant role in world politic in
questing for Democracy and human rights. 

4. 	The NLD-LA call on the international communities to maximise
international pressure on the Burmese military regimes with the aim of
emerging the tripartite dialogue through the dialogue between Daw Aung San
Suu Kyi and the SPDC. International communities, including Australian
Government are requested to bring about the tasks proposed by the Labor Party.
