Burma Denies RFA Report
International Herald Tribune
January 30, 1998

Bangkok: Burma's military government accused Radio Free Asia on Thursday
of broadcasting what called "astonishingly fictitious" reports about
corruption in its leadership.

Radio Free Asia, which is funded by the U.S. government, alleged in a
report Tuesday that several generals removed from power in a recent
government's shakeup had been arrested and tons of gold bars found in
their homes.

Rangoon has denied that any of its generals are under arrest. The
president of RFA, Richard Richer, said Thursday that the broadcaster stood
by its story, which he said was based on multiple sources.(AP)
