subscribing (r)

We would like to remind subscribers that we have two lists:
burmanet-l and burmanews-l

burmanet-l includes the BurmaNet News and other postings. Any subscriber
can send messages to this list.

burmanews-l includes only the BurmaNet News and occasional other postings.
Only the BurmaNet Editor can send messages to this list.

If you would like to switch to burmanews-l, unsubscribe from burmanet-l
and send a subscribe message for burmanews-l. Or you can send a message
to strider@xxxxxxxxxxx and we can switch you.

To subscribe to burmanews-l:

send a message to: majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx
in the message type: subscribe burmanews-l

(all lowercase letters, last letter is a lowercase L)

to unsubscribe from burmanews-l

send a message to: majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx
in the message type: unsubscribe burmanews-l

(all lowercase letters, last letter is a lowercase L)

Note: Substitute burmanet-l to subscribe or unsubscribe to that list.

After you subscribe, majordomo will send you a message asking you
to confirm your subscription. Send a confirmation message back, with
the one line code supplied in the majordomo message.

(see the example below)

BURMANET: NEW SUBSCRIPTION POLICY
May 11, 1997

Dear BurmaNet Readers,

The igc system, where the BurmaNet lists iare hosted, was having problems
with pranksters subscribing forged addresses. They have now upgraded
the system to ensure better security. So new subscribers to burmanet-l
and burmanews-l must first send a subscribe message, then a confirmation
message with the authorization code sent to them by majordomo. This
will ensure that you really want to subscribe and no one is subscribing you
without your knowledge.

Below is an example of how the new system works:

1. abc@xxxxxxx sends a message to majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx
saying "subscribe burmanet-l"

2. majordomo sends a message back saying:

   To: abc@xxxxxxx
   From: Majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx
   Subject: Confirmation for subscribe burmanet-l
   Reply-To: Majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx

   --
Someone (possibly you) has requested that your email address be added
to the mailing list "burmanet-l @igc.apc.org".

If you really want this action to be taken, please send the following
commands (exactly as shown) back to "Majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx":

           auth baa6132e subscribe igc-netnews abc@xxxxxxx

If you do not want this action to be taken, simply ignore this message
and the request will be disregarded.

If your mailer will not allow you to send the entire command as a single
line, you may split it using backslashes, like so:

           auth baa6132e subscribe igc-netnews \
	abc@xxxxxxx

3. abc must send back the following message, with the approval code:

   To: majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxx
   Subject:

   auth baa6132e subscribe igc-netnews joandoe@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

4. Majordomo will subscribe abc and send abc the welcome 'info'
message for the list.

If this is unclear, you can e-mail strider@xxxxxxxxxxx with questions.
