Camps to be restricted
Trat

Two Cambodian refugee holding centres in this eastern province have been
declared restricted areas in a bid to control the spread of communicable
diseases after a recent outbreak of typhoid left two of its 100 refugee
victims dead.

Governor Pathai Vicharnpreecha said both officials and refugees leaving
and entering the two camps at Ban Ma Muang in Bo Rai district and Ban
Khao Phlu in Muang District are subjected to stringent checks for
symptoms of typhoid which was long thought to have disappeared from
Thailand.

Trat public health chief Dr Vorayuth Chearasathawong said health
officials have been rushed to the camps to control its spread.

Dr Vorayuth also expressed concern over a rise in diarrhoea cases. Ten
people including a two-year-old child are reportedly suffering from the
disease in Bo Rai and Khao Saming districts.

A campaign has been launched to warn people to strictly follow hygienic
standards, he said.
