(1)		Number  of  Courses  Doubled,  Number of Post-Graduate Students
			Multipled  at Institutes of Technology in Less Than One Year
		Minister for Science and Technology addressed the opening of the 
postgraduate courses at the Yangon Institute of Technology in the YIT assembly
hall on 3 March.  Postgraduate courses such as ME and Ph D were opened on 28
April 1997.  In less than one year, 43 short-term courses including the
present six courses have been opened at the YIT.  2,373 trainees are attending
those courses.  Previously,  4,956 students and 27 students had attended
degree and postgraduate  courses respectively in 21 different courses.  The
number of courses has doubled and the number of postgraduate students
multipled.  Plans to open postgraduate Ph D and ME courses and to contact with
noted international universities to enhance the level of training courses to
the international level and plans to open part-time diploma courses and
continuation of the studies of successful students will be soon implemented.
		The courses which commenced on 3 March at the YIT are:  Diploma in
Biotechnology, Diploma in Engineering Geology, M Sc in Engineering Chemistry, 
M Sc in Nuclear Technology and the four-month Basic Structural Engineering
Part 1 evening course.

(2)		Vietnamese Minister of Industry Arrives
		A 16-member delegation led by Minister of Industry Dr. Dang Vu Chu of
Vietnam Socialist Republic  arrived Yangon by air on 3 March at the invitation
of Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe.

(3)		National Convention Convening Commission Holds Meeting
		The National Convention Convening Commission held its meeting at the meeting
hall of NCCCon 3 March. National Convention Convening Work Committee and
National Convention Convening Management Committee reported matters on the
National Convention. Members of the NCCC presented supplementary reports.
 
(4)		Workshop on Eye Care Project Commences
		Workshop on Eye Care Project jointly sponsored by the Anti-Trachoma and
Anti-Blindness Project of the Health Department, Ministry of Health, and
Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) of Germany commenced at the Myanmar Medical
Association on 3 March. The opening ceremony was followed by the workshop. 
Dr. Hogeweg of CBM gave a lecture and replied to questions raised by those
present. The workshop will be held for three days from 3 to 5 March.

(5)		More Golfers Arrive
		Last batch of professional golfers from Thailand, Australia, The
Netherlands, Malaysia, England , India and China arrived Yangon by air to
participate in 
London-Myanmar Open ?98 to be held at Bagan Golf Resort from 5 to 8 March.

(A)		Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission received President 
Mr. Hiroshi Ikeda and party of Nomura Trading Co Ltd of Japan at his office.
(B)		Minister for Industry-2 received Vice-President Mr. Zhao Yue Xin and
party of China Machinery Complete Equipment Engineering Coporation of People?s
Republic of China at his office.
(C)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Chief
Representative of Yangon Representative Office Mr. Masahiro Sagawa of the 
Fuji Bank Limited of Japan at his office.
(D)		Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission received General Manager Mr.
Kyoji Kameo of Fujitsu Limited of Japan at the Commission?s office.
