April 8, 1998. Border panel inspects disputed islands
                      Ranong

An army ad hoc committee assigned to handle the Thai-Burmese border 
problems is now in Ranong to inspect three disputed islands.

Maj-Gen Kalayanuwat Yuyen, chief of the ad hoc committee, yesterday held 
a meeting with provincial officials to collect information on border 
problems with Burma and examine the three disputed islands.

Thailand and Burma, both holding different maps, have claimed ownership 
of Lam, Khan and Khinok islands. Thailand claims they are in Muang 
district of Ranong.

The information will be forwarded to army chief Gen Chettha Thanajaro 
who will lead a Thai delegation on a visit to Burma for negotiations on 
various issues.
