(1)		Second Consignment of Freight Wagons Arrives
		The coaches were brought by mv Nicole from Bar Port in Yugoslavia and
Monfalcone Port in Italy.  Myanma Railways purchased 402 freight wagons worth
US$ 25 million from Yugoslavia for speedy service in commodity transport.  Out
of 402, the second consignment of 78 freight wagons arrived at Yangon. They
will be used on Yangon-Mandalay Railroad.  MV Nicole carried 2,200 metric tons
freight wagons for MR and machinery and spare parts for Ministry of
Construction.

(2)		Myanmar, Thai Hold Discussions
		Discussions on friendly relations and cooperation promotion between Myanmar-
Thailand were held at the annex of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 2 pm on
7 April.  It was attended by Thai delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign
Affairs Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U
Nyunt Swe and officials.

(3)		Eighth Gems and Jade Sale Begins
		The eighth gems and jade sale of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd.
was held in Myanma Gems Emporium Hall on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road on 7 April.
Gems merchants purchased 253 lots of gems for K 477.4 million, 17 lots of gems
for 0.96 million US dollars, 28 lots of jade for 0.58 million US dollars
totalling 298 lots of gems and jade for K 477.4 million and 1.5 million US
dollars by bargain and auction.

(4)		Seminar on Electronic Communicational Media Based on High Technology
		A seminar on Electronic Communicational Media Based on High Technology,
sponsored by the Ministry of Information, was held at Myanmar Radio and
Television on 7 April.  Computer technicians took part in the discussions.

(5)		Thai Deputy Minister of Commerce Arrives
		At the invitation of Deputy Minister for Commerce, a 11-member delegation
led by Deputy Minister of Commerce of Thailand Mr Pothipong Lamsom arrived
Yangon by air on 7 April.

(6)		Han Golf Masters Junior Golf Tournament, 98 Begins
		Under the sponsorship of Myanmar Golf Federation and Han Golf Masters Pte
Ltd, a ceremony to open Han golf Masters Junior Golf Tournament ?98, organized
by Olympia, Nmai Hka Drinking Water, Crusher, Sun Far Travels and Tours Co.
Ltd and Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Driving Range, was held at Yangon Golf Club at
Danyingon on 7 April. Altogether 28 golfers are taking part in under-12 event,
37 in 13-15 event and 31 in 16-18 event totalling 96 golfers.

(7)		Yangon City Chess Team Leaves for Kuala Lumpur
		The Yangon City chess team left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by air on 7
April to participate in Asia Cities International Chess Tournament to be held
from 8 to 16 April.

OFFICE CALLS IN YANGON ON 7 APRIL
(A)		Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun received Vice-President Mr Carmel
Dahan and party of Koortrade of Israel at his office.
(B)		Minister for Health received German Parliamentarians Mr Dietrich Mohlo
and Mr Eckart at his office.
(C)		Minister for Hotels and Tourism received Chairman of United International
Limited Mr Tay Choon Hye at his office. They discussed diplomatic shop, duty
free shop and hotel construction for Innlay region.

		The Minister also received Managing Director Mr Toshio Yoneda of Hopeson
Myanmar Ltd at his office. They discussed Yangon Commercial Tower of No 73/75
on Sule Pagoda Road to be open in coming May.
(D)		Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs received Vice-Chairman
of Telrad Telecommunication & Electronic Ltd Mr Carmel Dahan and party of
Israel at his office.  They discussed extension for communications projects.
(E)		Minister for Industry-1 received Sales Director of Fritz Werner
Industries Ausrutungen GmbH of German Mr Christ together with officials at his
office.

The CEC Member of KNU and Troopers Traded Arms for Peace
			The KNU Central Executive Committee Member and official in charge of
forestry Pado Aung San together with (38) troopers and (200) family members
traded arms for peace on 7th April near Manerplaw. 
 
			This group left the Mae Wai Khi Refugee Camp which is located about 8 miles
east from the Myanmar-Thai border.  

			They brought assorted arms and ammunition and traded them for peace to the
authorities concerned, it is learnt.
