(1)		Myanmar Is Raising Momentum Continuously in Preventing and Eradicating
Menace of Narcotic Drugs
	
	A special coordination meeting on yearly baseline data collection on poppy
cultivation and drug-addicts in Myanmar was held in the meeting hall of the
Ministry of Home Affairs on 12 April with an address by Secretary-1 of the
State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
		In his remark he said baseline data collection on poppy cultivation and
drug-addicts is playing a crucial role in eradicating narcotic drugs, and
stressed the importance of correct baseline data. The Ministry for Progress of
Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs, the Ministry of
Agriculture and Irrigation and other ministries are to constantly carry out
crop substitution activities and education programme and to improve
communication facilities. In Myanmar, use of narcotic drugs is forbidden
according to religious and cultural custom, he remarked and called on all to
make concerted efforts for striving to eradicate narcotic drugs. Officials of
State and Division Peace and Development Councils reported on progress of work
in collecting baseline data. Those present took part in the discussions.
 
(2)		Three Sawmills in Sagaing Division to Be Privatized
		
                          Sawmills No 13, No 14 and No 94 in Sagaing Division
are to be privatized in accordance with the decision passed by the Meeting No
1/98 of the privatization Commission held on 6 April 1998. Interested
individuals or organizations are to contact the Privatization Commission
Office at 313, Bo Aung Kyaw Street in Yangon, it is learnt.
 
(3)		CSO Officials Leaves to Attend Computer Network Course in Singapore
		
                           A Staff Officer (Computer) of the Central
Statistical Organization,  Ministry of National Planning and Economic
Development, left Yangon by air on 12 April for Singapore to attend the
Computer Network course at Singapore Telecommunication Academy, Singapore from
13 to 24 April 1998.
 
(4)		Construction of Building for Women's Home

		Construction of a three-storey building and a guest house, extension of
weaving workshop to improve weaving industries and nurturing skilled workers
to be commenced in Yangon.

(5)		Stimulants Seized

		A team comprising members of regional intelligence unit, Muse anti-drug
squad and passenger bus inspection group searched Ba/5406 from Lashio at
checkpoint in Mongyu on 31 March. They seized 4,830 stimulant tablets, a
pistol, one magazine and 14 rounds of ammunition from passenger Nyi Paung.
Legal action will be taken according to the Law, it is learnt.
