MYANMAR'S New International Buddhist University to Open

            YANGON (June 8) XINHUA - A new
            International Buddhist Missionary
            University of Myanmar, the main
            center to learn Theravada Buddhism
            in the country, will open here in
            November this year, The New Light
            of Myanmar newspaper reported
            Monday. 

            The main objectives of the university
            are to share the genuine Theravada
            Buddhism with followers in the world,
            to study and comprehend the
            canonical texts of the Buddhism. 

            Language teaching is included in the
            academic programs, in which the
            medium of instruction is in English,
            the report said. 

            The university will offer diploma and
            degrees for under-graduate and
            post-graduate students, the report
            added. 

            Myanmar, for nearly a thousand
            years, has preserved Theravada
            Buddhism pure and intact.
