YANGON (June 23) XINHUA - A technical
workshop on the national accounts of
Myanmar is being held here to enhance
the capability of government officials in
compiling the gross domestic product
(GDP) data for national planning and
economic administration.
The two-week workshop, which began
Monday, is jointly sponsored by the
Central Statistical Organization of the
Myanmar Ministry of National Planning
and Economic Development (NPED), and
the Economic and Social Commission for
Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The New Light of Myanmar Tuesday
quoted NPED Deputy Minister
Brigadier-General Zaw Tun as saying that
the Myanmar ministry is taking all
measures to help compile regional-level
and national-level GDP data on a quarterly
basis.
The workshop is scheduled to discuss
topics on introduction of the 1993 System
of National Accounts (SNA), GDP
compilation and its measurement, other
national accounts aggregates and
overview of the compilation of Myanmar's
national accounts.
National accounts of Myanmar were first
prepared in 1951, the format of which later
followed the 1953 United Nations SNA.
Attending the workshop are officials of
various Myanmar ministries and the
regional advisers on national accounts of
the ESCAP in Bangkok.
