Workshop on Myanmar National Accounts Held in Yangon

            YANGON (June 23) XINHUA - A technical
            workshop on the national accounts of
            Myanmar is being held here to enhance
            the capability of government officials in
            compiling the gross domestic product
            (GDP) data for national planning and
            economic administration. 

            The two-week workshop, which began
            Monday, is jointly sponsored by the
            Central Statistical Organization of the
            Myanmar Ministry of National Planning
            and Economic Development (NPED), and
            the Economic and Social Commission for
            Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). 

            The New Light of Myanmar Tuesday
            quoted NPED Deputy Minister
            Brigadier-General Zaw Tun as saying that
            the Myanmar ministry is taking all
            measures to help compile regional-level
            and national-level GDP data on a quarterly
            basis. 

            The workshop is scheduled to discuss
            topics on introduction of the 1993 System
            of National Accounts (SNA), GDP
            compilation and its measurement, other
            national accounts aggregates and
            overview of the compilation of Myanmar's
            national accounts. 

            National accounts of Myanmar were first
            prepared in 1951, the format of which later
            followed the 1953 United Nations SNA. 

            Attending the workshop are officials of
            various Myanmar ministries and the
            regional advisers on national accounts of
            the ESCAP in Bangkok.
