India statement



Joint-statement issued by India-base Burmese pro-democracy groups in full
support of NLD's call to convene Parliament.

On 27-6-98, all Burmese pro-democracy groups held a meeting at NCGUB
office. The leaders of groups discussed the current political situation
inside their motherland, Burma. The leaders shared the update information
and were excited about the new developments in Rangoon.

The major topic was NLD's call convening the Parliament within 60 days
after the NLD Congress. All group leaders extended their full support of
NLD's legitimate call. They were embarrassed by recent unnecessary
measures taken by the authorities against the youth and NLD leaders. 

On 28-6-98, a joint statement was issued by India-base Burmese
pro-democracy groups. The statement said:
1. NLD is not only a legitimate political party but also it has won
landslide majority in 1990 election and is constantly struggling for
democracy under numerous hardships.
2. NLD has called to convene the parliament in accordance with the
resolutions adopted by its Congress.
3. Because that call reflects the desire of the people, is in accordance
with the election law and is within the democratic frame, the India-base
Burmese pro-democracy groups give full support to it.
4. We urge all exile groups and individuals, governments, and
non-government organizations to endorse the call of NLD.
5. SPDC, the military authorities should realize that there is only
solution to talk with Chairman and the General Secretary of NLD to solve
the problems of farmers, workers, students, state economy and convening
the Parliament.
6. We are determined to accomplish 100% of convening the Parliament.
