Myanmar Stresses Effective Use of U.N. Aid

            YANGON (July 7) XINHUA - Myanmar leader Lieutenant-General
Khin
            Nyunt has called for the effective use of the aid provided
by the United
            Nations, the New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported on
Tuesday. 

            At a meeting here Monday on projects implemented in Myanmar
with
            aid from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and
other
            U.N. agencies, Khin Nyunt, first secretary of the Myanmar
State Peace
            and Development Council, said: "assistance received should
be put to
            most effective use so that more assistance would be
forthcoming." 

            Various projects on education, health, agriculture, drug
eradication
            and environment preservation are being jointly implemented
in
            Myanmar with aid from such U.N. agencies as the UNDP, UNICEF
            (United Nations Children's Fund), UNESCO (United Nations
            Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WHO
(World Health
            Organization), UNDCP (United Nations International Drug
Control
            Program), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and ESCAP
            (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific),
the
            report said. 

            In January, the Myanmar Ministry of National Planning and
Economic
            Development also held a meeting on assessment of the
projects
            implemented with U.N. aid.
