Thailand's flexible-engagement policy
The following are points of the Thai policy of flexible engagement:
ü Continued commitment to Asean Vision 2020, recognising both commonalities
and differences within Asean;
ü Continued committment to non-interference as the cardinal principle for
dealings within Asean and with other countries;
ü Recognition that each Asean member has the responsibility to contribute
to Asean sucess and the right to preserve national identity and articulate
national beliefs, norms and values;
ü Commitment to the principle that non-interferene cannot and should not be
absolute but must be subject to reality tests and flexible;
ü Commitment to taking a more active interest in fellow members' prosperity
to help promote Asean regionalism and create an early-warning system to
alert one another of the gravity of certain domestically generated
transnational or international problems as well as to pool scarce resoures
for addressing such problems.
