Dhaka, Yangon Sign Mou to Strengthen Economic Relations

            DHAKA (July 28) XINHUA - Bangladesh and Myanmar signed here
            Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote,
            strengthen and expand trade, investment and other economic
            activities between the two countries. 

            Under the MOU, a Bangladesh-Myanmar business promotion
center
            would be set up in the private sector to explore the
possibilities of
            increased bilateral trade and economic cooperation,
particularly the
            possibility of setting up a special export processing zone
in Teknaf,
            southeast Bangladesh, exclusively for joint ventures based
on raw
            materials from Myanmar. 

            Subcommittees would be set up under the center for
conducting the
            feasibility study on the processing zone, and for studying
the possibility
            of mining lime stone and manufacturing clinker for clinker
industries in
            Bangladesh and of establishing hydroelectric power plants in
            Myanmar. 

            The MOU was signed by R. Maksud Khan, president of the Dhaka
            Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) and U Aik Htun,
leader
            of a visiting business and investment delegation of Myanmar,
at a
            symposium on "Prospects of Bangladesh-MyanmarZCZC
