Tokyo Activists Continue Their Protest
Tokyo, July 28, 1998

Once again, the Tokyo pro-democracy activists gathered at the front gate of
the Burmese embassy on 10; 30 am and demanded that the junta must allow
their leader Aung San Suu Kyi to go to the place that she want to go.

On 10:00 am the local police officers told the activist have to leave from
the embassy by 11:30 am because the activists did not get the permission
from the police to protest and the residences near the embassy might be
afraid the gathering. But activist told the police that they had decided to
protest until 12:30pm. So they can not comply with the police request and
take the action what the police have to. And also explain that they are
staging a silent protest with discipline. So it does not make the
disturbance to the residence.
In Tokyo, the protesters have to take the permission to protest from the
police before 72 hours it has started.

Meanwhile, one activist tried to hand out the statement to the embassy
staff. But the embassy staff told that he can not come out and accept the
statement and put it in the letterbox.

On 12:30pm, the activists ended their silent protest against the Rangoon
junta with the slogan to let Aung San Suu Kyi to the place that she want to go.
