MANILA, July 29 (Reuters) - Myanmar has rejected a request by several
countries to allow United States and Japanese envoys access to opposition
leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the country's foreign minister said on Wednesday.
U Ohn Gyaw told a news conference that the Yangon government had refused
the request, with the explanation that such a meeting ``is not urgently
needed.'' Suu Kyi has held a protest in her car outside Yangon since Friday
after authorities prevented her from meeting party colleagues.
