8-8-88 commemoration in Edmonton
BURMA WATCH INTERNATIONAL
( A SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS )
INVITATION
On August 8, 1998 at 11:00 am , Burma Watch International will be
holding a meeting to honour the memory of the more than 6000 unarmed
civilians, including school children and Buddhist monks , who were
killed by machine gun fire while they were peacefully demonstrating
against the tyranny and repression of the military regime which has
ruled Burma since 1962.
The meeting will be held at the South Plaza of City Hall weather
permitting. In case of inclement weather the meeting will be held in
the City Room of Edmonton City Hall.
Please bring candles to light in memory of the 6000 killed.

Back ground of Burma Watch International
BWI is a society for Human Rights, which was founded in 1989 in
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, by a group of people including Canadians and
Burmans, who sympathized and concerned for people suffering inside
Burma.
Objectives of BWI
1. To encourage, foster and develop among its members a recognition
of the importance of Human Rights in the Union of Burma.
2. To promote public awareness of the social, cultural, political and
economic life of the people in Burma.
3. To promote and provide humanitarian assistance to those in need
especially refugees.
BWI wishes to work closely with all organization and individual who
share its goal of democratic reforms and human rights in Burma.
